Case Study
Consolidating 17 Data Centers onto VMware Cloud Foundation
Problem
Accenture's internal IT operated 17 data centers worldwide, creating unnecessary cost, complexity, and redundancy. The footprint needed to shrink without degrading service for 800,000 users across the firm.
The consolidation had to happen while continuing to deliver infrastructure programs across twelve time zones and six delivery centers.
What I did
Led the consolidation of Accenture's internal data center footprint from 17 sites to 10 - a 41% reduction - using VMware Cloud Foundation with high availability maintained throughout.
Managed a multi-million-dollar infrastructure budget across a nine-year tenure, balancing capital and operational spend against enterprise priorities.
Converted business requirements into delivery roadmaps and milestones spanning twelve time zones, holding release commitments across six delivery centers on four continents.
Led a distributed engineering organization scaling from 16 to 32 across India, Argentina, London, Germany, Ohio, and Chicago.
Result
Data center footprint reduced by 41% (17 to 10 sites) while improving reliability and lowering operating cost.
Distributed engineering organization doubled from 16 to 32 across four continents.
Delivery commitments held across six delivery centers and twelve time zones throughout the consolidation.
$10M+ infrastructure budget managed with capital and operational spend balanced against enterprise priorities.
